Given only a week, the Scholars found ways to maximize their time in preparation for their very first Performance Night last Saturday, June 21.
Hadji Alejandro, Girlie Rodis, and Louie Ocampo did the honor of judging the performances of the 16 Scholars, while the Dream Mentors were doing judgment of their own inside the Academy’s faculty lounge.
All the Scholars received positive responses, but of course, there were some who stood out with greatness, while some were advised to spend more time on improvements.
Cristina “Cris” Pastor impressed not only the judges, but also the Mentors. Her performance received excellent comments despite the major adjustment she had to face few days before the actual Performance Night. On the last minute, Cris’ song was changed, as a form of punishment for team Pupilars’ loss over One Voice during one of the activities. But based on the show she put on, it seemed as if the punishment was no challenge at all.
With a final grade of 8.96, Maria Liezel “Zel” Garcia was hailed PDA Season 2’s First Star Scholar of the Week. Aside from the title, Liezel would also have the chance to fulfill a little dream of giving her grandmother a mobile phone. Joining her in the list of Top 3 Scholars of the Week were Van Louelle Pojas and Miguel Mendoza.
Actress, singer and TV host Toni Gonzaga and director Paul Soriano have been an item for only a year, but they’re already setting their sights on settling down–not soon, but eventually.
In separate interviews with The Buzz, both Toni and Paul expressed their desire for their present relationship to culminate in marriage, even as they revealed the gifts they exchanged to mark their first year anniversary.
Paul said he gave Toni a Tempur-pillow–it’s a pillow made from high-tech “memory foam” that was once developed by NASA for its astronauts. Basically, pillows and mattresses made from memory foam mould themselves to the shape of the body or object placed on it. As a result, there’s less pressure to the user who will sleep very well on the memory foam.
He must really want Toni to have very sound sleep wherever she goes–after all, she’s one of the busiest ABS-CBN talents with tapings and shows that last well into the early morning hours.
Toni on the other hand gave Paul a scrapbook filled with magazine clippings and other odds and ends that are souvenirs of the most memorable moments of their relationship in the past year.
The lovers only had good words about each other during their interviews. Toni described Paul as ’sweet. Marami syang ginagawa na unexpected”. Paul on the other hand said that he appreciates Toni’s efforts to see him despite her busy schedule.
“She finds ways to make time for me, for dinner, coffee, hang out,” he said.
Paul also said that their shared Christian faith is a big help in keeping their relationship strong, despite the issues and intrigues local showbiz throws at them.
About a year ago, Shaina Magdayao and her co-UD4 member John Prats were reportedly a couple. In fact, John supposedly gave Shaina a ring similar to his to signify their closeness. But for some unknown reason, the two suddenly stopped wearing the rings.
But during the pictorial for her latest project with “Your Song Presents” (a weekly series), ABS-CBN.com spotted Shaina wearing the ring again. When we asked the young actress why she was wearing the ring again and if it meant she and John were together again, she laughed and gave a very intriguing comment: “Bakit hindi niyo na lang tanungin yung nagbigay!?”
“Your Song Presents” featuring Shaina Magdayao, Jake Cuenca, and Marvin Raymundo airs this July.

Morales confirmed that the television hit “Super Inggo” will have a Book 2. However, he said that right now, there is still no definite date on when he will start to work for the series.
In the last quarter of 2007, “Super Inggo” returned to the small screen for its second season entitled “Super Inggo 1.5: Ang Bagong Bangis.”
Talented actor John Lloyd Cruz faces changes in his life and career as he turns 25 today Tuesday, June 24.
In a press conference, Cruz shared that aside from having a new movie, he also has a new on-screen partner — a partner that he consider as a new source of happiness, and that is no other than the country’s Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo.
“Kasi talagang si Sarah OK kami, nag-click kami. So we are very happy together kapag nasa set kami gumagawa ng eksena,” Cruz said about his new leading lady for new movie “All About Love.”
The actor refused to answer if there will be a kissing scene in the movie.
Cruz and Geronimo worked together for a special episode of ABS-CBN’s longest-running drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya.” The MMK episode has been shown at least thrice due to public demand.
Cruz who had been identified with his long-time on-screen partner, actress Bea Alonzo, admitted that he feels some trepidation over how audiences will accept that he has a new love team.
Pero ako naniniwala na yung mga taga-suporta namin ni Bea they know better than that,” Cruz said.
